BARBEITO 5 YEAR “ISLAND RICH” MADEIRA 750ML (LIGHTLY SWEET)

Barbeito 5 Years Island Rich Reserva is a sweet fortified wine that is golden in color with aromas reminiscent of nuts (like almonds), sea spray, and toffee. On the palate it has lovely citrus notes with good acidity and a fresh and smooth finish.

Barbeito 5 Years Island Rich Reserva Sweet is a fortified sweet wine made from the Tinta Negra Mole (Negramoll) variety produced by the Vinhos Barbeito winery, in Madeira, Portugal.

The clusters used to make Barbeito 5 Years Island Rich Reserva Sweet come from plots located in the Strait of Camara de Lobos and Sao Vicente. The must obtained after pressing the grapes begins to ferment but this fermentation is stopped by adding 96% wine alcohol at just the right moment to achieve the desired amount of final sweetness in the wine.

The resulting wine is aged in French oak barrels for more than 5 years using the Canteiro Method, which is used for the highest quality Madeira wines and involves aging the wine without any artificial heat source, as with the Estufagem process. The barrels are placed on wooden shelves called canteiros which are found in the highest points of the winery where it is warmer. For the Barbeito 5 Years Island Rich Reserva Sweet, they select wines that sit in the Vinhos Barbeito warehouses at a stable temperature throughout the year which results in wines that are very balanced in sugar and acidity.

Vinhos Barbeito dates from 1964 and is a family winery that works with the philosophy of producing wines with the highest quality standards and, above all, with a unique and characteristic style of the island of Madeira.
