Sweet creature, sweet creature, wherever I go, you bring me home the Jurtschitsch estate’s entry-point Grner is the bottle you reach for on a Tuesday and mean it.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Grner Veltliner sourced from loess-soil vineyards across the Kamptal valley in Niedersterreich (Lower Austria), a cool-climate region known for producing Grner with real cut and spice, not just easy fruit. Grapes are hand-harvested with vineyard sorting before a brief skin maceration.
Taste Profile: Pale yellow-green, dry and refreshing, with fresh apple and citrus zest up front and a peppery, savoury spice that carries through a clean, food-ready finish. Good with tandoori chicken, shabu shabu, or beef tartare.
Winemaking Process: Grapes are pressed gently with no pumping, then fermented slowly at around 18C in stainless steel to preserve the delicate aromatics, with the wine finished and aged in steel tank.
Winemaker: Jurtschitsch is run by Alwin Jurtschitsch and his wife Stefanie Hasselbach (of the Gunderloch family in Rheinhessen), who’ve spent the last decade-plus pushing the Kamptal’s natural wine movement forward organic and biodynamic farming throughout, with no copper sulfate in the vineyards.
