La Perdida “O Pando” Godello 2021
The old, abandoned vineyard that convinced a biologist to become a winemaker.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Godello grown across the steep, slate-scarred hills of Valdeorras in Galicia, northwest Spain a region better known for its whites and its dedication to old, dry-farmed vines.
Taste Profile: Refreshing, with notes of citrus, green apple and minerality, carried by a bright acidity that pairs beautifully with seafood or grilled vegetables.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts, then aged on the lees for six months to build texture and depth.
Winemaker: Nacho Gonzlez, trained as a biologist, founded La Perdida in 2012 after his grandmother gave him “O Trancado,” an old, abandoned vineyard in Valdeorras. Rather than rip out the neglected vines, he nursed them back into production and now farms 28 scattered plots across the region, all organically and by hand. His wines are made without any added sulphites from vineyard to bottle, with a preference for old wood barrels and clay tinajas that let the fruit speak for itself.
